An abscessed tooth is caused by infection that can be found at the main of the tooth or in the gum tissue that surrounds the main. In some cases, the abscess can enter into the actual tooth due to erosion within the enamel, that allows bacteria into the center of the tooth. Regardless, an abscessed tooth may cause unbearable pain.
Besides pain within the tooth, there are more symptoms that you could knowledge about an abscess. Some of those symptoms are fever, sensitivity to cold or hot, smelly breath, swollen neck glands or swollen jaw, open sores around the gums, bitter taste in the mouth or inflamed gums. All of these symptoms can be quite agonizing and if detected, you should visit a dentist immediately.
Once diagnosed, your dentist can treat your abscessed tooth to alleviate the pain sensation. The Dentist's primary goal would be to save your tooth without extracting it. Usually, a root canal is going to be performed to empty the problem in the tooth. A root canal procedure will take away the nerve and pulp from inside the tooth (in which the infection is) and then the tooth is cleaned and sealed, to protect the inner area of the tooth. Sometimes, when the tooth is extremely decayed and a root canal can't get the job done, the tooth must be extracted so that the infection can drain out from the tooth's socket. In other cases, your dentist may need to make a cut inside your gums to drain out the infection. Once you have been treated, your dentist will prescribe antibiotics to eliminate the problem. Also, for comfort, our recommendation is that you gently rinse the mouth area with warm salt water, which can help to keep the treated area clean, when brushing your teeth may be too uncomfortably.
The best way to avoid any types of problems with your teeth would be to practice excellent oral hygiene by brushing, flossing and visiting your dentist twice a year for check-ups. Neglecting your mouth can all too often turn into undesired issues that are occasionally very painful to deal with.
